December 2007

Our Lodge phone 501 - 835 - 4545 has been discontinued
From the East Chuck King Worshipful Master Brethren: To the officers and brethren, thank you for all of your support and assistance during my year as Worshipful Master. It has been a learning experience, to say the least. But, it has been fun. Congratulations to our new officers for 2008. Let's all work to make it a good year for them. Fraternally, Chuck King Worshipful Master
From the East Robert Felcher Worshipful Master-Elect Brethren: Thank you for electing me to be your Worshipful Master for 2008. I will do my best to lead our Lodge and our Fraternity.
I encourage all brothers to attend Stated Meetings and help in the upcoming degrees. I also want to thank all the new officers for accepting their election, and I look forward to working with them.
Fraternally, Robert Felcher
On the Secretary's Desk T.J. Henwood, PM Brethren: I am pleased to tell you that we have fewer than 10 members left unpaid for 2007. I hope, by the first of the year, that number will be zero. The 2008 dues cards are here. You can send your 2008 dues of $50 to: Sylvan Hills Lodge #754 P.O. Box 6221 Sherwood, AR 72124-6221 I feel we have elected a solid corp of officers, not only for 2008, but for the next several years. Congratulations to the newly elected officers. This year, St. John's night will be at Big Rock Lodge, on Locust and McCain, in North Little Rock. I hope you enjoy Christmas season with your family. Fraternally, T.J. Henwood, PM Secretary Sylvan Hills Masonic Lodge #754 Free and Accepted Masons Highway 107 & Bear Paw Drive Sherwood, AR 72120 "The Friendly Lodge"

November 2007
From the East Chuck King Worshipful Master Brethren: The Lodge has been very busy during the month of October, and it looks like November will be even busier. We have petitions for two candidates for degrees out, and a Fellocraft Lecture to be turned in. Don't forget the Past Masters' Honor Night on November 29th. (This is for ALL Master Masons to honor our Past Masters.) After the dinner, we expect Brother Derrick Wood to be Raised to the degree of Master Mason. Brother Dave Cullum is preparing the meal, and I've been told we can expect another great meal of catfish and chicken. During our Stated Meeting on December 6th, we will have the annual election of officers for next year. Then, on December 8th at 10:00 AM we will install those new officers for 2008. Everyone is encouraged to attend. I hope you have a safe and happy Thanksgiving Holiday.
Fraternally, Chuck King Worshipful Master
On the Secretary's Desk T.J. Henwood, PM Brethren: October was a good month for our Lodge. We had a great handyman day at North Hills Child Services in October. Brothers Andy Miller, Bob Trask, J.D. Sexton (and his wife, Rita), James Sanders, Jerry Hixson and I were able to accomplish many "fix-up" jobs. We replaced exterior weather-stripping to make the classrooms more comfortable; we repaired several door facings that had been damaged by wheelchairs, and were posing a danger to the smallest children; and put new automatic towel dispensers in the bathrooms. Later that evening, the Lodge had a good fellowship night at our annual Family Fish Fry.
Unfortunately, we have 16 members who have not paid their dues for 2007. Are you one of them? We need every member's support, if our Lodge is to continue to be the "retreat of friendship & virtue" that it is. Please, send your dues today.
I hope you and your family have a safe and happy Thanksgiving. Fraternally, T.J. Henwood, PM Secretary

October 2007
From the East Chuck King Worshipful Master
Brethren:It looks like the year is going to go out in a flurry of activity. Look at the upcoming calendar of events for
Sylvan Hills Masonic Lodge
This month we have several special events, starting with a work day at North Hills Child Services on Saturday, October 20th, from nine until noon. Then, that evening, we’ll have a Family Night Fish Fry at the Lodge, under the direction of Brothers Dave Cullum and Bobby Harrell. You can come out and help us at North Hills, then go home and clean up and bring your wife and family up to the Lodge for a great dinner! What a day! We’ll also be conferring a Fellowcraft Degree on the 25th, which will set us up perfectly for a Master’s degree the night we hold our annual Past Master’s Honor night. That will be on November 29th, the next Thursday after Thanksgiving. Hope to see YOU!
Fraternally, Chuck King Worshipful Master
On the Secretary's Desk T.J. Henwood, PM
Brethren: Its time to think about the Sylvan Hills Scholarship for 2007. If you have a child, or grand child, that is a graduating senior in High School this year, he or she is eligible to apply for the Sylvan Hills Masonic Lodge Scholarship. Again this year, our Treasurer, Mike Snyder, and I are forgoing the stipends that the Lodge used to pay the Secretary & Treasurer offices, to fund our scholarship in the amount of $1200
We hope that amount can be a real help to a student entering their 1st year of college, or technical school.

September 2007

From the East Chuck King Worshipful Master
Brethren, I would like to thank all of you who have helped out during my back surgeries and recovery. It seems as though the doctor fixes one problem, and then something else breaks. Just age, I guess. I would like to congratulate Brother J.D. Sexton on conferring the Entered Apprentice Degree last month and welcome our new Entered Apprentice, Brother Derrick Wood. Fall is almost here, and our weather should begin to cool down, and give our air conditioning unit a rest. (Thanks, Joe, for keeping it humming through August!) To all who have not attended Blue Lodge this year; please try to come, and be a part of YOUR Lodge.
Fraternally, Chuck King Worshipful Master
On the Secretary's Desk T.J. Henwood, PM
Brethren, I feel like a broken record (do any of those under 30 know what I'm talking about?), but it is getting late in the year, and we still have some 25 members who have not paid their dues for 2007. All have been sent personal reminders. If you are one of those, let me suggest to you that you are as important as the brother who comes to every meeting. Without you, and your financial support, there would be no Sylvan Hills Masonic Lodge. Please send your 2007 dues of $50 today. On the activity side of things, plans are in the works for a Family Night fish fry in October, and a Past Masters' honor night, probably in November. Watch the next two month's Trestleboards for specifics to be announced.

August 2007

From the East Chuck King Worshipful Master
I am sorry to have had to miss the last two Stated Communications. However, my back problems persist, and I am still in a great deal of pain. I had to leave the Lodge before the meeting started in July, and was not able to attend at all in August. I hope you will forgive me and I hope to be back at Lodge later this month, and through the rest of the year. I am very excited about having a newly elected candidate to receive the degrees. I would encourage all Masons to come to the Pre-Degree Education, and the Degree night. We are also processing a Petition for affiliation with our Lodge. Good things are happening at Sylvan Hills. I hope you will come and be a part of it. Fraternally, Chuck King Worshipful Master
On the Secretary's Desk T.J. Henwood, PM
This month we are going to be busy at the Lodge. On the 9th we will have a pre-degree education night for our newly elected candidate, and his family. Remember, these nights are also open to anyone that has expressed an interest in the Fraternity, and their families. If you've been talking with someone about Masonry, invite him. Perhaps this is just the extra information he needs to persuade him to petition for membership. Congratulations to our newest Perpetual Member, Brother Paul W. Lampton! Are your 2007 dues of $50.00 paid? Check your card. If not, its time to send this year's check, and maybe time for you to consider a Perpetual Membership.
Fraternally, T.J. Henwood, PM (32°, KCCH-1997)
July 2007

From the East Chuck King Worshipful Master
Brethren: I hope everyone had a good and safe Fourth of July. Remember our Military, wherever they are and when you see someone in uniform, stop, and tell them, "Thank you." Brother Reo Sanders will certainly be missed very much. He was always here, and willing to help in any capacity. Our prayers go out to Amy and all of his family. We have three brothers being honored by the Scottish Rite this year, Mike Snyder, Tom Ollie, and Richard Garrett. Congratulations to them all. Thanks to everyone who has helped during the time I have been recovering from my back surgery. I hope to be back in good shape, and able to be active again, soon.
Fraternally, Chuck King Worshipful Master
On the Secretary's Desk T.J. Henwood, PM
Brethren: Last month I was writing as one of the two Pillars of Solomon honorees for 2007. I was so humbled to have joined the ranks of some of our Brethren who have influenced me in our Lodge. Notably, for me, was Brother Reo Sanders, our 2nd member to be so honored. This month, I must inform those of you who are not here in central AR, that we lost Brother Sanders to the eternal Celestial Lodge the day after the Stated meeting in June. Brother Reo, we will miss you. There is good news this month, however; several of our members are being honored by the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry with honors. Those selected are: Brothers Richard Garrett, to receive the 33rd Degree, Inspector General, Honorary; and Brothers Mike Snyder & Tom Ollie to receive the Knight Commander of the Court of Honor. The conferral of these honors is set for December 8, 2007. To my knowledge, Brother Ulcie Hinkson is the only other member of Sylvan Hills to have received the 33rd Degree. Brother Reo Sanders was one of the few of our members to be a KCCH. Fraternally, T.J. Henwood, PM (32°, KCCH-1997)
June 2007

From the East Chuck King Worshipful Master
Worshipful Master Brethren: Congratulations to the two brothers who received the "Pillars of Solomon" Awards at our Stated meeting in June. Brothers Joe Reynolds and T. J. Henwood are being honored this year, and both of them are well deserving. It is hard to choose among our brethren, because so many do so much, but I hope you will agree with your officers' choices this year, and congratulate these worthy brothers. Special thanks to Joe for getting the Lodge Hall A/C up and running, in time for our meeting. (again) The annual festival of St. John the Baptist will be held at Crescent Lodge, on Commercial Drive in North Little Rock this year. Crescent Lodge is located behind the Golden Corral on Warden Road. The brothers at the Crescent Lodge always prepare a great meal, and I know the program will be worthwhile, as well. Remember, the St. John's nights are Stated meetings of our Lodge. Please try to attend. Speaking of Stated meetings, please note that the Stated meeting in July will be held on the 5th, which is the regular date. I know some members will be out of town, but it was discussed at the June meeting, and many were in favor of keeping to our regular schedule.

Brethren: I am overwhelmed as I write this article. I must thank all of my brothers at Sylvan Hills Masonic Lodge, and especially WM King and SW Felcher for the honor of being chosen to receive the Pillar of Solomon for this year. I know Joe Reynolds feels as I do, that you have all given both of us many great privileges: 1st in allowing us to be members, 2nd in allowing us to serve as officers, and Master of the Lodge, and now to be recognized along with some of those whom we all look up to, is truly humbling. Thank you very much. This month we welcome a new member to Sylvan Hills Lodge. Brother Doug House has affiliated with us from Mt. Sinai. Actually, he's coming home, as he received his degrees here at Sylvan Hills Masonic Lodge in the mid 70s. Welcome back, Doug! Special Note: The next Stated Meeting is scheduled for July 5, 2007 I hope to see you at our Lodge some time soon.

May 2007 From the East Chuck King Worshipful Master
Brethren: Summer is almost here and vacation time is near. Don't forget your Lodge! Try to attend as often as possible. This month we are having a special night for those who have not been to Lodge in a long time, and who might be a little "rusty" on their signs and words, etc. Thursday the 24th we will have a dinner & fellowship, and give you an opportunity to re-new your Lodge friendships, without concern about being embarrassed that you might not get something right in the opening. If you have any questions, we'll review the procedures with you, so you can get back to attending regularly. We'll also welcome those who have received their Entered Apprentice Degree, but for whatever reason, have not progressed further. We want you back, if you want to continue your Masonic adventure. We'll get you set up with an instructor, and get you back on track. I want to thank those who have been preparing our meals so far this year, and extend a special "thank you" to Brother Larry Majors, who has cut the grass twice this year, before anyone asked! Thanks again, to all the brethren for allowing methe privilege of being WM this year.
Fraternally, Chuck King Worshipful Master
On the Secretary's Desk T.J. Henwood, PM
Brethren: The first Saturday in June, the 2nd, will be a special event for Masons in our area. The District Deputy Grand Master, R.W. Brother George Coffman is holding an Area Meeting at the Albert Pike Scottish Rite Temple at 7th and Scott Streets in downtown Little Rock.
The doors will open at 9 A.M. for coffee, donuts and fellowship with the meeting scheduled to start 10 A.M. On Saturdays you can park on the street, without paying the parking meters.
These meetings are informative, and you will get to know more about our Grand Master’s program for 2007, and how things work between our Lodge and the Grand Lodge.
As always, I would remind you to be sure your dues of $50 are paid for 2007 (156 of 187 are paid to date). And, to be sure that the Lodge has your current address and phone. (And e-mail, if you have it.)
Each Trestleboard sent to a bad address costs the Lodge approximately $1.50 postage to get it to the person to whom it was originally mailed.

April 2007 From the East Chuck King Worshipful Master
Brethren, Thank you to all of the brethren who traveled with us to Cabot Lodge last month. We successfully retrieved our Edwin Proctor Gavel, as well as the District 21 traveling gavel.
I also want to congratulate, again, our two newest 50 year members, Brother Reo Sanders and Ross Ison. The presentation night for these brothers was indeed a special occasion at the Lodge. I thank Brother Bobby Harrell and the others who worked on this for their efforts.
Brethren, with spring our thoughts turn to many things. But, I would encourage you to remember our monthly fellowship breakfast.
In March we had a better turn out than we have been having, and that's great! Remember, our breakfast is open to non-Masonic guests.
It's a great opportunity to introduce your neighbor(s) to our Lodge, and Freemasonry. I hope you and your family enjoy a blessed Easter month.
Fraternally, Chuck King Worshipful Master

Brethren: This month we have an opportunity to learn about our ritual. The Deputy Grand Lecturer, Brother Arthur Fielder, held a school on Saturday, April 14, 2007, starting at 8:30 AM. The school will be held at the Jacinto Lodge, in Jacksonville. If you need directions, just give me a call, or Email me If you have never been to one of these schools, I would encourage you to attend. If you're an "old hand" at degree work, I encourage you to attend. You may find that it IS possible to teach an old dog a new trick, or two. Seriously, these schools are a great opportunity to be sure you are up to date, and correct in your ritual work, both in degrees and the opening and closing of the Lodge. As always, I would remind you to be sure your dues of $50.00 are paid for 2007 (153 or 187 are paid to date). Please be sure the Lodge has your current address, phone and Email Each Trestleboard sent to a bad address costs the Lodge approximately $1.50 in postage to get it to the person to whom it was originally mailed.
