Greetings Brothers and all who are looking to the East!
Welcome to the Home page for Canton TX Lodge #98
A.F. & A.M., the friendly Lodge for weary travelers.
Canton Lodge Dispensation was originally established in 1852
and our Lodge Charter was granted on January 23, 1852.
Our lodge has served as a refuge for both local & traveling
Masonic brothers and their families since the doors opened.
Canton Lodge 98 was established in the town that was then known as Canton. Canton was a thriving community during those times and consisted of shops, schools and even a college. For a time it was also the county seat of Smith county. The name was changed to what is present day Omen,Texas. The Masonic lodge was a two story structure which housed the lodge in the top floor, while the ground floor served as a community gathering center, and alternated weekends as a sanctuary for the Methodist and Baptist churches. When the railroad bypassed Canton,it began to fall upon hard times. The lodge was moved east to the community of Strawberry Junction, which was renamed ARP, in honor of a beloved newspaper editor.
