From the East David Burden Worshipful Master Brethren: I would like to thank you for electing me to be Master of Sylvan Hills Lodge for the year 2010. I hope we have another great year. I will do my best to see that it happens.
I would like to thank Bro. Sexton for the great job he did last year, as Master. And, I look forward to working with the new officers in the year ahead.
We have a busy month in December. The installation is over, and now we look forward to a Master's Degree on December 10, the Christmas party at North Hills Child Services on Dec. 18, Breakfast on the 26th, and St. John's Night at Jacksonville on the 28th of December.

With the vote of the Lodge last week, 50 year members will be receiving their cards shortly. If you fall into either of those categories, and you don't have your 2010 card by January 1, please contact me.
Several others have already sent their 2010 dues. Thank you!

November 2009
From the East J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master Brethren: October was busy! We conferred an EA on Mr. Ryan Hackly, a Fellow Craft on Brother Gerald Helton, and had our annual family and friend fish fry. We served over 125 people at the fish fry and for our breakfast that same morning we served 33 meals; one of our biggest turn-outs of the year. All in all the day was a great success. The year is winding down, but we still have work to do, with just a couple of months to go. Move up night in November elections and installation in December. Where did the time go? I had a great day at the Scottish Rite Reunion. They had a great dinner for SGIG Dewayne Treat and the Albert Pike exhibit leading up to the reunion also went well. Sylvan Hills is honored that one of our candidates, Brother Michael Felcher was selected as the Reunion Class President. Also, Brothers Jerry Hixson and Andy Miller have been elected to become Knights Commanders of the Court of Honor. Congratulations, my brothers! It is a great time to be a part of Masonry, there appears to be an increased interest state-wide. Let's all hope for the trend to continue and that the fraternity continues to grow.
Fraternally, J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master
On the Secretary's Desk T.J. Henwood, PM Brethren: More good news this month. We have worked the list of those unpaid for 2009 down to only four. I have great hopes that will be zero before the end of the year. The 2010 dues cards are here. Of course, we all know our dues are due on the first of each year. Perpetual Members, and those who have already paid for 2010 will start to receive their cards this week. Thanks to those who have sent me their e-mail address. Our e-mail newsletter is growing every day. Send me your e-mail address today to: sylvanhills754@gmail.com Bro. Jerry Hixson's wife Sandy had a fall at home last weekend that required hip surgery. She is recovering at St. Vincent's North. Let's keep her and Bro. Tom Murphy in our prayers. Brothers Jerry Hixson and Andy Miller have been elected to the Knight Commander of the Court of Honor in the Scottish Rite. All of the Scottish Rite Honor Men of Sylvan Hills give them our Congratulations, and welcome. Congratulations also to Brother Michael Felcher, Fall Reunion Class President!

October 2009
From the East J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master Brethren: Our new roof has been completed, the inside entry and lodge room has nearly been repainted and the floors are waxed. We are about ready for our family night fish fry, on October 24th at 5:00 PM. Please, invite all you family and friends for an enjoyable evening. We will initiate another Entered Apprentice October 15, Ryan Hackley. We are now up to three EA's working and are still looking forward to conferring a Fellowcraft on Bro. Gerald Helton October 22. It has been an active year fraternally. I Have received the Royal Order of Scotland, been initiated as Sentinel in the Grotto and am working in the 29th Degree in the upcoming Scottish Rite Reunion. Again thank you to all the Brethren for the support you have given me this year.
Fraternally, J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master
On the Secretary's Desk T.J. Henwood, PM Brethren: Last month was good news, only six left unpaid for 2009. This month the news is that the same six still have not paid. Brethren, we will have to vote on your suspension in November if you remain unpaid then. Please, let's not "go there". Thanks to those who have sent me their e-mail address. Our e-mail newsletter is growing every day. Send me your e-mail today to: sylvanhills754@gmail.com This month we have two degrees, an EA and a Fellowcraft. Things are happening at your Lodge. Come be part of it. We had a visit from Brother Tom Murphy at our Stated Communication in October. It was good to see Brother Tom. If you missed him, why not give him a call at: 501-835-5279. Congratulations to WM Sexton on his reception into the Royal Order of Scotland. How well I remember my Knighting into the ROS in 2000.

September 2009
From the East J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master Brethren: Again this month, sad tidings at the loss of Brother Lamar Murs Dill, Jr. who passed to "that house not made with hands" at the age of 66 on September 18, 2009. A graveside Masonic service was conducted by Brother T. J. Henwood, PM, assisted by several Brothers from Sylvan Hills and White River Lodge of Des Arc.
We initiated another Entered Apprentice in August. Welcome to Brother Gerald D. Helton. Brother Helton will receive his post-degree education on September 10.
We now have two EA's working and hope to confer a Fellow Craft in the near future.
A special thanks to the Brothers who waxed the floor at the lodge. It looks great!
The Lodge has been approved for a new roof due to hail damage and we are in the process of finding a company to do the work. Our Building Committee is on the ball.
We have had a wonderful year so far and anticipate the remainder to be busy. Thanks to all those who have afforded me help in all my endeavors.
Fraternally, J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master
On the Secretary's Desk T.J. Henwood, PM Brethren: Good news again this month regarding dues. We're down to just six who still owe for 2009. Let's make it 100% by next month!
Thanks to those who have sent me their e-mail address. Our e-mail newsletter is growing every day. Send me your e-mail today to: sylvanhills754@gmail.com
Looking forward towards October, please note that our Fall Family Night is set for October 24th, at 5:00 PM at the Lodge.
Brothers Harrell, Cullum, Trask, Majors, Sanders, and all the rest who work so hard in the kitchen really want to see you there! By the way, they cook chicken for those of us who don't really care for, or can not eat, fish. It's a great time to bring a family member or friend who you would like to introduce to the Lodge.
Also in October, the Little Rock Scottish Rite is celebrating the bicentennial of Albert Pike's Masonry in Arkansas during the reunion October 30 & 31.

August2009
From the East J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master Brethren: It appears that Masonry may be on an upswing. We have recently voted on one petition, initiated a new EA, read another one assigning it a committee and have two more possibilities for petitions in the works.
Over the past few months other members and I have visited several lodges helping in degree work. Let's hope the trend continues and that the fraternity is on the road to a growth in membership. Our new EA is working hard and hopefully will be ready to advance to the next degree in the near future.
I have visited with Brother Tom Murphy and his wife Evelyn. Tom appeared to be doing well, he says he still gets tired if he ventures out but is in good spirits.
The year is over half over and we are staring to wind down. We still need to discuss the matter of a family night in the near future so we can show our appreciation for the support our families give each of us. We also need to discuss a work day at the Sherwood Child Center and a work/clean up day for our Lodge.
I want to thank all the brothers who have helped to make this a great year so far & know we will have a great rest of the year.
Fraternally, J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master
On the Secretary's Desk T.J. Henwood, PM Brethren:
Last month I mailed 17 reminders to pay dues to members who had not yet paid their 2009 dues. As of the Stated Meeting of August 6th, only seven members remain unpaid for 2009. THANK YOU, to all those who responded to my reminder.
To those who have not, please try to get your dues paid.
Of course, as the letter said, if you are experiencing a financial difficulty that makes your dues a burden, all you need to do is make the Lodge aware of your situation. I feel certain your brothers would want to help by remitting your dues. And, I assure you that your request for assistance would be kept in strictest confidence. Please, help me be able to post that we are 100% paid next month.
Thanks, also to those who have sent me their e-mail address. Our e-mail newsletter is growing every day. Send me your e-mail to: sylvanhills754@gmail.com or click on this link to contact me.
As WM Sexton says, there’s a lot going on at our Lodge. I hope you can come by on a Thursday night and be a part of it!

July 2009
From the East J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master Brethren: Saint John's Night at Oak Grove was a great success. We had 6 members from Sylvan Hills and the meal was great. The program was put on by Right Worshipful Brother Gene Warren, the Deputy Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Arkansas. All lodges in our district were represented.
Congratulation to our newest Entered Apprentice, Brother Christopher Hester. We had a wonderful degree with three Grand lodge officers in attendance. Right Worshipful Brother Oscar Fielder, Deputy Grand Lecturer; Right Worshipful Brother Tony Oliver, Grand Senior Warden; and Most Worshipful Brother Dan Lloyd Past Grand Master. My thanks to all the officers and brothers who participated in the degree. Every one did a great job.
Brother Hester appears to be a great addition to the Lodge and I am sure it will not be long before we are ready to confer a Fellow Craft degree.
Fraternally, J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master
On the Secretary's Desk T.J. Henwood, PM Brethren: I am currently working to make sure the Lodge has a complete listing of all the contact information for each of our members.
Obviously, if you are receiving this newsletter, we have your postal address. However, I feel we may not have everyone's E-Mail address, for those who use the internet. I have created a little list of members' emails. I send occasional notices to those members whose e-mail I have. It is great if there is a change of a date listed in the printed Trestleboard. And, of course, for funeral notices.
I NEVER send jokes or "forwards" to this list. If you have email, and you have not received a notice from me in the last 60 days, its because I don't have your address. If you would like to be added to the list, send me an email! If at any time you find you do not wish to receive these notices, all you have to do is request to be removed.
In addition to the periodic notices, I am now attaching a PDF version of each month's Trestleboard at the same time it is sent to the printer. So if you're on the list, you get your Lodge news first! Send me your e-mail today.

June 2009
From the East J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master Brethren: Sad tidings; we have lost two more of our Brethren, who have passed on to the Celestial Lodge above. Brother William Hamilton who had been a Master Mason since 1971 passed on May 23rd, 2009, and our Treasurer Brother Mike Snyder, who had also been a Master Mason Since 1971 and served as Master in 1997, passed on May 13th I have appointed Brother Robert Felcher, PM to serve as Treasurer pro-tem and Brother Bobby Harrell as Tyler pro-tem for the remainder of 2009.
We voted and passed a new petition for the degrees for Mr. Christopher Hester. The candidate education is set for June 18th, 2009, and The EA Degree is tentatively set for June 25th, 2009.
Brother Bobby Combs, PM was presented the "Pillars of Solomon" award for the year 2009. Congratulations, Brother Combs.
I would like to thank all the brethren for helping make the first half of the year be so successful. Let’s all keep up the good work.
Fraternally, J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master
On the Secretary's Desk T.J. Henwood, PM Brethren: As Worshipful Master Sexton says in his column, our Lodge has indeed received Sad Tidings this month. Those of you who know me know Mike Snyder was not only my Masonic Brother, but a good friend. Many also know that he presented many programs of Masonic Education to close our Lodge meetings. In his records, I found the following, and I thought he might want me to share it with you.
The Point of No ReturnAuthor WB Wally Zink--------------------Whether we are ready for it or not, someday it will all come to an end. There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours or days.
All of the things we have collected, whether treasured or forgotten will pass on to someone else. Our wealth, fame, temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance. It will be of little value what we owned or what we saved.
Our grudges, resentments, frustrations and jealousies will evaporate like fog in the morning sun. So too will our ambitions, plans and our to-do-lists will expire.
The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away. In the end it will matter little where we came from, or on what side of the tracks we were born.
It will not matter a whit if we were beautiful, brilliant or slow in learning. Even our gender and skin color will be irrelevant.
So what will honestly matter? How will the value of our days be measured? It will not matter what we bought, but what we built; not what we got but what we gave.
What will matter will not be our success, but our significance.
What will matter is not what we learned, but what we taught.
What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to emulate our example.
What will matter is not our competence, but our character.
What will matter is not how many people we knew, but how many will feel a lasting loss when we are gone. What will matter is how long we will be remembered, by whom and for what reasons.
We are all on a journey that has a destiny, but no return. Do What MATTERS!

May 2009
From the East J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master Brethren: We have had our 1st degree work of the year, the Fellow Craft DDGM Wright Worshipful Brother David Miles made his official visit Thursday 04-02-2009 and gave the following report from the Grand Master Most Worshipful Brother Ronnie Hedge
The Diamond program is the primary endeavor this year along with the sale of the grand master cup, pin, and knife. Also there will not be an EH English award this year.
None of the unfinished work EA's came to the workshop but we did have a great fellowship with Pizza, and a good EA degree practice afterwards. For any of the EA brethren that wish, you are always welcome to come by the lodge and have someone work with you to continue your degree work. Stop by any Thursday night and someone will be there to make arrangements to help.
It is nearly summer and we need to be thinking about a family night function. I look forward to seeing many of you at the stated meeting to discuss what & when.
Fraternally, J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master
On the Secretary's Desk T.J. Henwood, PM Brethren: Sad tidings this past month. We lost two long time members to the Supreme Grand Lodge above, brothers Raymond L. Plummer and Earl W. Sorrells. We extend our deepest sympathy to their families.
Good tidings also, we received a petition in May and will hope to have degree work again in June.
Special note; our Grand Master, MW Brother Ronnie Hedge will hold his area meeting for our area, & our Lodge, Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the Masonic Temple on Highway 365 in Pine Bluff. Registration, (coffee & donuts) from 8:00 to 9:00 AM. Meeting to start at nine, and run until approximately four in the afternoon.
2009 Dues are $50.00, and are due now. Check your card and be sure you're up to date. Of course, if you are experiencing a difficulty that makes your dues a burden, please make the Lodge aware so that we may consider remitting your dues, and perhaps assist you in other ways.

April 2009
From the East J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master Brethren: Brother Thomas Lopez received a great Master's Degree on Past Masters night on March 26th. Bro. Robert Felcher, Past Master, did a fine job of conferring the degree.
We had 21 Past Masters, and 12 of those were Past Masters of Sylvan Hills. This month we will have post-degree education for Brother Lopez on the 9th. Then on April 30th, we will have a night to renew the interest of our Entered Apprentices and Fellowcrafts who have not finished the three Degrees.
If you have received your 1st or 2nd degree at Sylvan Hills (or any regular Masonic Lodge for that matter), we would like to help you finish what you started.
On the 30th of this month, we will have a special night when there will be no ritualistic opening, so you don't have to be concerned about being embarrassed about not remembering signs or passwords. We will exemplify the 3rd Section of the EA Degree, which we hope all Masons will find interesting.
Our 4th Saturday breakfast is another great time to come by the Lodge and renew Masonic relationships. Stop in & say, "Hi".
Fraternally, J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master
On the Secretary's Desk T.J. Henwood, PM Brethren: This month I am going to discuss a couple of "housekeeping" items with you. First, please be sure and notify the Lodge of any change in your address, BEFORE it becomes effective. This will save the Lodge some expense with regards to mailing this newsletter. Returns and forwards cost the Lodge an additional $0.50 per piece. As much as $1.61 if I have to send one on 1st class.
Also, if you feel that you desire to have a Masonic Memorial service as a part of your funeral, please be sure to let your family know of your wishes, and let the Lodge know as well. We keep that in your file. There is never a charge for a Masonic Memorial.
And, as always a reminder: 2009 Dues are $50.00, and are due now. So far 146 of our 175 members have paid for 2009. Check your card and be sure you are not one of the 29 yet to pay. Of course, if you are experiencing a difficulty that makes your dues a burden, please make the Lodge aware so that we may consider remitting your dues, and perhaps assist you in other ways.

March 2009
From the East J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master Brethren: We have had our 1st degree work of the year, the Fellow Craft Brother Thomas Lopez, has turned in his Fellow Craft proficiency and was approved with flying colors.
We hope to have a great Past Masters night on the March 26th; the dinner is 6 PM and degree at 7 PM. Brother Robert Felcher, Past Master, has requested to confer the degree.
We are well into the year and with a good turn out of Past Masters I could get a well-deserved break. Seriously, I would love to see enough Past Masters to open, close and confer the degree. Let's make this a memorable night for Brother Lopez.
We can also use a lot of help from visiting brethren for the 2nd section, so pass the word.
Response to our 50 year honor night was wonderful. Four out of the six, 50 year members were present. Brothers Sherill, Bernstien, John Bilon, Charles Thomas and Neal Blackwater were all presented their 50 year pins and certificates. We had a great meal and everyone seemed to have an enjoyable evening.
Our breakfast hit an all time high for the year in February. Let's keep up the good work and spread the word that we have a great breakfast so we can continue to increase the number of brethren, friends, and family attending.
Fraternally, J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master
On the Secretary's Desk T.J. Henwood, PM Brethren: Worshipful Master Sexton is taking advantage of the fact that we have a candidate ready for his Master's degree by calling the Past Master Honor Night early in the year, on March 26, 2009 All Past Masters are cordially invited. However, it is our tradition at Sylvan Hills, that our Past Masters confer the 1st section of the degree, in order of seniority. There is an exception to this for this degree. PM Robert Felcher has requested the honor of conferring the degree, as the candidate is a State Trooper. All other Past Masters who wish to work in the degree, in any part, please contact me before the degree night so that we can coordinate the assignments.
The 2009 Scholarship will be split between 2 excellent applicants: Dylan Glover, grandson of PM Mike Hoofman; and Alanna Freeman, a senior at Sylvan Hills High School
And, as always a reminder: 2009 Dues are $50.00. Due now. Fraternally, T.J. Henwood, PM Secretary Sylvan Hills Masonic Lodge #754 Free and Accepted Masons Highway 107 & Bear Paw Drive Sherwood, AR 72120 "The Friendly Lodge" Mailing Address: P.O. Box 6221 Sherwood, AR 72124
February 2009
From the East J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master Brethren: We have had our 1st degree work of the year, the Fellow Craft for brother Thomas Lopez, and I want to let everyone who participated know how much I appreciated their contribution. Together we had a great degree.
Hopefully, we will be conferring a Masters Degree, in the near future.
Grand Lodge went smoothly this year. All three of the proposed resolutions failed to pass, and Brother Jarrod Adkisson was elected as Grand Junior Deacon.
The Grand Lodge project for this year is the Endow the Future program, so I hope all who can, please support the Arkansas Diamond Program.
The military Honor night was wonderful. I know that Brother Roy House, Brother Jason Crawford, and Brother Mike Felcher, were moved by the certificates and all our military connected brethren appreciative of our esteem.
We will be honoring our 50 year members next week and I hope that as many brethren as possible will be able to attend.
We will be honoring six Brothers: Sherrill Bernstein, John Bilon, John Black, James Blackwelder, Billy Hubanks, and Charles Thomas.
I will be attempting to contact each of this brothers to advise them of the event and urge any brother that may know one of them to try to assist in having them attend if they're able.
Fraternally, J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master
On the Secretary's Desk T.J. Henwood, PM Brethren: Sylvan Hills Lodge is an E. H. English Award winner for 2008 - 2009! This award, named for Past Grand Master E. H. English, is presented by the Grand Lodge to those Lodges who conduct their business in a proper manner, and who do outstanding Lodge and Community work. You can be proud you are a member of an "E. H. Of course, we could not do that without the support of all of our members. Thanks to the 126 who have paid their 2009 dues so far.
If you're not one of them: 2009 DUES NOTICE Dues for 2009 are now due and payable. The dues are still $50.00 Please make your check payable to Sylvan Hills Lodge #754 & mail to: Post Office Box 6221 Sherwood, AR 72124-6221

January 2009
From the East J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master Brethren: Hopefully everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I am looking forward to a great year serving you as your worshipful Master.
Saint John's Night was a great success. Thanks to all the brethren for attending, to Brother Dorman for the program and to the Eastern Star for the wonderful meal.
This year I would like for the lodge to again support the North Hills Child Service Center, in this worthwhile cause, also I would like us to again help some deserving young person with a scholarship through our scholarship program
I plan this year, for us to focus on and work with the brethren, especially with our newer members, on the ritual of our craft.
I would like to when possible to set aside at least one practice a month to work on degree work. I am pleased that we will be starting early in the year with degree work, continuing Brother Lopezs' degrees. I also would like to see the lodge help to find ways to bring non-masons (family and friends) into the lodge a few times during the year.
The Honor Day for our Brothers serving in the Military and 50 Year Honor nights will be great opportunities for just that!
Fraternally, J. D. Sexton Worshipful Master
