Brief History of Sylvan Hills Masonic Lodge #754 This lodge is the only lodge of Freemasons meeting within the city limits of Sherwood, Arkansas. Sylvan Hills Masonic Lodge, was instituted under dispensation from the Grand Lodge of Arkansas on January 8th, 1953. The new Lodge was soon granted a Charter, and was Constituted Sylvan Hills Lodge, Number 754 by the Grand Lodge on December 3rd, 1953, and has met continuously since. Meetings were held for the first five years in a classroom at what was then Sylvan Hills School. The Masonic Lodge is now located at 10599 Highway 107, at the intersection of Bear Paw Drive. The building which now houses the Lodge was constructed between 1955 and 1957, with the Grand Master and Grand Lodge Officers laying the cornerstone March 30th, 1957. The first meeting in this building was held August 22nd, 1957. There were 41 in attendance, and two men were raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason at that meeting. Sylvan Hills Lodge is affiliated with the worldwide system of Masonic Lodges which trace their lineage to the formation of the United Grand Lodge of England, in 1736. ACTIVITIES Service is a key aspect of the mission of the Sylvan Hills Masonic Lodge. The Lodge offers its members many different ways to be of service. Internally, members are obligated to assist other members and their families in time of need. The most basic forms of Masonic activity are designed to help the members improve themselves, simply through participation. Externally, Sylvan Hills Masonic Lodge is actively involved in several areas of community service. For many years, the Lodge has adopted needy families within Sherwood at Thanksgiving and Christmas, giving food and gift baskets to those who might not otherwise have cause to celebrate these holidays. Since 1995, the Lodge has been part of the City of Sherwood's
Adopt-A-Street
program, cleaning up all of Bear Paw Drive from Highway 107 to the area behind the High School Stadium on the first Saturday of the month. In 1996, the Lodge created a
Scholarship Grant
program that offers scholarships to Sylvan Hills High School Seniors, and/or relatives of Lodge members, up to 1200 bucks. In 1996, the Lodge first donated to the
North Hills Services
organization, giving the proceeds of a fund-raising banquet as a Christmas project. Other Christmas projects in recent years have included donating to the Angel Tree at McCain Mall. Beginning in 2003 the Sylvan Hills Masonic Lodge started providing some
Christmas gifts
for the pre-school children at North Hills Child Services. This has become an annual Christmas project of the Lodge. In 2004, the Lodge partnered with the National Association of Women in Construction to complete several physical improvement projects at the North Hills campus. The Lodge also is a contributor to the
Arkansas Food Bank Network
