Kingston's rich history dates back to the arrival of the Dutch in 1652 and
features unique architecture, arts community, and some of the finest dining
establishments in the region.

Kingston is located at the point where the Rondout Creek and the Hudson
River meet, with the Catskill Mountains providing a breathtaking scenic view.

In 1609, the Dutch established a trading post here. The first settlement was
built in 1652. Indian attacks and massacres were common and the entire
village was burned down in 1653. The original stockade was built in 1658.
The stockade was built to protect settlers from the Indian attacks.

Kingston became the first capital of New York in
1777 and the Senate first met here. That house
is now a historic site and a museum. Our first
Governor was inaugurated here & buried in the
Old Dutch churchyard.

The American architecture in Kingston covers
the span of four centuries and offers a variety
of styles and interests that will appeal to all.

Visitors can tour colonial stone homes, ride the
antique trolley, or just leisurely browse local
museums,boutiques, galleries and antique shops.
